Niacinamide is a B complex vitamin, and one of the forms of B3. Unlike the
other B3 (niacin), niacinamide does not cause skin flushing (but it also
does not improve cholesterol). It has a long history in brain function. As
early as 1952 it was shown to improve recovery from mental disease. More
recent research shows, again this is in animal models, that it has strong
neuroprotective properties and protects the cells that are involved in
Parkinson's disease from damage. Niacinamide also has been shown to be an
effective treatment in experimental (animal) models of traumatic brain
injury, when administered shortly after the injury.
One of the most recent studies shows that in an animal model of Alzheimer's
Disease, the mice given oral nicotinamide (niacinamide) demonstrated
restored cognitive function. It prevented cognitive declines and improved
short-term spatial memory. It also increased proteins associated with
improved learning and memory. [J Neurosci 2008;28:11500-11510]
Niacinamide (Vitamin
B3) is also the vitamin nutritionists use to help protect the body against
pellagra. Note: Niacinamide does not cause flushing. Nutritionists have
found that niacinamide may reduce symptoms of joint problems.
Suggested Usage: Adults, take one (1) tablet daily preferably with food
and liquid.
Other Label Information: Keep out of reach of children.
