Western Europe discovered the benefits of the Small Flowered Willow Herb long before it was introduced to the United States. Men enjoyed tea made from its leaves as a natural way of treating ailments of the urinary tract, bladder, and especially the prostate. Once introduced in the US, demand went up, and quality tea leaves became more difficult to find. That was when BCN located an ultra-high-quality supplier and developed a method of producing a full spectrum liquid Epilobium that delivers all of the promise of this fantastic plant.

Epilobium (Small Flowered Willow Herb) came to the professional's and public's attention, after a lecture by Austrian herbalist Maria Treben. However, her lecture stirred a tremendous demand for the herb throughout Germany and Austria for use by men concerned about the health of their prostate. American demand also grew quickly, even in light of little public information about the herb because men experienced its benefits. Until BCN introduced the first stable, effective liquid Epilobium in 1998, there were few reliable sources for Epilobium, and no convenient full-spectrum forms of the herb.
Scientific literature quickly confirmed the actions of Epilobium. In 1991, an article in Plant Medicine4 confirmed its anti-inflammatory effect, and noted it to be "ten times more effective than indomethacin." Inhibition of 5 alpha-reductase and aromatase, which are involved in the etiology of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), was confirmed in several articles. In addition, the anti-infectious activity of a water-alcohol extract was shown in vitro (outside the body), in ovo (in an egg) and in vivo (in a living body).
